About Us

We believe the individual impact of football players cannot be measured by vanity metrics like goals, passes, tackles won or possession. Real team players influence besides their own metrics especially their team members, their opponents and as a final output the game result directly and indirectly. This is what Football GAP is about.

Game Review

In a tightly contested Bundesliga match, RB Leipzig edged out Hamburger SV with a 2-1 victory, continuing their push towards the top of the table. The game, played on Sunday, 1 March 2026, saw both teams enter with contrasting forms, as Leipzig aimed to maintain their momentum in the league. The match began with Hamburger SV taking an early lead in the 22nd minute through Fábio Vieira (GAP -0.3%), who capitalized on a defensive lapse to put the hosts ahead. However, RB Leipzig responded swiftly, with Rômulo Cardoso da Cruz (GAP +2.7%) equalizing in the 36th minute, showcasing his clinical finishing ability. The second half saw RB Leipzig take control, with Yan Diomande (GAP +2.0%) scoring the decisive goal in the 50th minute. His strike was a testament to Leipzig's attacking prowess and ability to exploit spaces in the Hamburger defense. Tactically, RB Leipzig's manager made no changes to the starting lineup from their previous match, indicating confidence in his squad's ability to deliver results. In contrast, Hamburger SV's manager opted for a fresh approach, bringing in Warmed Omari, Rayan Philippe, Albert Sambi Lokonga, Yussuf Poulsen, and Jean-Luc Dompe as substitutes to inject energy and creativity into the team. Key performances included Castello Lukeba (GAP +6.5%), who was instrumental in Leipzig's defensive solidity, and David Raum (GAP +4.8%), whose contributions on the flank provided Leipzig with width and attacking options. This result sees RB Leipzig solidifying their position in the upper echelons of the Bundesliga table, while Hamburger SV will need to regroup and address their defensive vulnerabilities to improve their standing. The victory reflects Leipzig's strong form, as they continue to challenge for European qualification spots. Post-match reactions highlighted the resilience of RB Leipzig, with players and fans alike praising the team's ability to overturn the deficit and secure a crucial away win.

What is GAP?

What is Plus Minus Goals (G±)?

Plus Minus Goals (G±) is the average goal difference per game while the player was on the pitch. A value above 0 indicates that the team rather wins, a value below 0 means his team concedes more goals than they score when the player is on the pitch. As an example, if the player's team is winning 3:1 the goal difference is +2, if the player's team is loosing 0:1, the goal difference is -1. It is a pure metric which is barely adjusted for circumstances to purely show the goal difference.

What is GAP?

GAP (Game Advantage Percentage) shows the percentage gap between a player and the average league player. It answers the question: How much does a player improve or worsen a team's performance? It is based on high level game data with a focus on the impact on the goal difference (G±) from the last 50 games of a player. Besides that, GAP goes further and considers game context by involving data from the player and all other players who are at the same time on the pitch, no matter if teammates or opponents. Football GAP - the individual metric for team players.
